Women’s Rights

 

· Strengthen the capacities of women and girls to claim their rights and meet their basic needs.

 

 · Protection of women against violence.

 

 · Participation in governance and decision making.

 

 · Building and strengthening women’s groups into networks and coalitions.

 

 · Advocate and campaign for laws, policies and practice that advance and protect women and children rights.

 

 

·   Raises consciousness and change attitudes so   that men and women relates to each other equals.

 

 

·   men and boys support the cause of gender equality

 

THE RIGHTS TO EDUCATION

 

 

· Support girl’s education and other disadvantaged groups in gaining access to quality education which is their rights.

 

· Support citizens participation in education budget tracking (education governance)

 

·  Work with coalitions, networks and civil society organizations in attaining the EFA goals.

 

THE RIGHT TO FOOD

 

·  Advocate and campaign for farmers’ rights-especially women’s- to agricultural land, water, pasture, forest and seeds.

 

· Support poor communities to develop

 

     sustainable livelihoods and sufficient

 

     purchasing power for their needs.

 

· Support and build strong civil society and poor communities to secure their rights to food.

 

· Campaign against unfair trade rules and practices that are inimical to development especially at local levels.

 

· Advocate and campaign for policies and practices that promote food security for people.

 

THE RIGHT TO HUMAN SECURITY

 

· Support poor and excluded people in accessing appropriate assistance for relief, recovery and mitigation of the impacts of emergencies and conflicts.

 

· Advocate for the protection of women’s rights during situations of conflict and disasters.

 

· Work with government and other agencies to reduce risks and protect people, especially the most vulnerable.

 

· Support women’s groups and civil society to effectively handle conflict and emergency situations.

 

· Work with youths to get them involved in undertaking their own development.

 

· Carry out Participatory Vulnerability Analysis PVA) using PRA tools and techniques with poor and excluded and support them to come up with action plans to reduce risk and create the necessary linkages.

 

RIGHT TO JUST AND DEMOCRATIC

 

GOVERNANCE

 

· Strengthen the capacity of women and poor and excluded people to organize them to claim rights and participate in decision making and influence public policy at all levels.

 

· To work with civil society groups and other social movements to enhance just and democratic governance.

 

· Work with national legislators and policy makers for democratic decision- making on issues affecting the welfare of the poor and excluded.

 

· Promote monitoring of the state’s delivery of social and economic rights by budget literacy and other minas, such as public hearings, citizens tribunals and the right to information

 

·  Promote accountability and transparency within and among civil society organizations at all local and national levels.

 

 

 

THE RIGHT TO LIFE AND DEGNITY IN THE FACE OF HIV AND AIDS

 

 

· Advocate for basic rights of orphans and vulnerable children, especially

 

     education, shelter, care and property

 

     inheritance.

 

 · Advocate and lobby government and other institutions to account for the provision of basic support and care for People Living With HIV and AIDS.

 

 · Advocate for access to care, treatment and support for PLWHA’S

 

 · Explore and promote best practices at community level using approaches such as Stepping Stones, STAR and Reflect in HIV and AIDS prevention.

 

 

WHY WE WORK WITH COMMUNITIES?

 

 

· To ground poverty eradication works in the lives of the poor and excluded for direct skills transfer and confidence building.

 

· To carry out social research to be able to gather relevant information as evidence to substantiate our argument during campaigns and advocacy debates and policy work at all levels.

 

· To avail MOVE-SL the opportunity to directly interact with the poor and excluded people to be able to deepen our understanding of their plight with a view to developing appropriate strategies to effectively address their needs.

 

 

The attainment of the above is not an easy task; however, Movement Oppose to Violence and Exclusion in Sierra Leone (MOVE-SL) has identified the following core interventions strategies to attain its vision of a world without injustice, violence and discrimination:
